Key Event's To Tackling Ashford's Growth Agenda

GADF Workshop - planning consultationSince Ashford was designated by government as a growth area in 2002 Ashford Borough Councillor's have embraced the changes and have had a proactive involvement in Ashford's future from the very beginning.

 

Stage one was a 'Capacity Study' led by the Council - this established the scale of growth that is now reflected in national, regional and local policy.

 

Stage two was a participative masterplanning process for 'Greater Ashford' and the town centre. This work is now reflected in the Core Strategy.

April 2002 Ashford was identified as a growth area to provide an additional 31,000 homes and 28,000 jobs by 2031
December 2002 Ashford's Future Study :- A capacity study testing the appropriate scale of growth.
February 2003 The Sustainable Communities Plan
June 2003 First meeting of Ashford's Future Delivery Board.
February 2004

A series of major workshops, exhibitions and a number of leaflets and brochures were distributed through the Ashford Borough. Consultants

were appointed by the Ashford Future Delivery Board to start work on the Greater Ashford Development Framework

18 February 2004 Ashford Area Transport Study setting out proposals of sustainable transport to support the Greater Ashford Development Framework
March 2005 Local Development Scheme submitted to government office
April 2005 Greater Ashford Development Framework
17 - 26 August 2005 Core Strategy 'Preferred Options' Report
March 2006 Ashford Town Centre Development Framework Published
April 2006 The Town Centre Area Action Plan 'Preferred Options' Report published
September 2006 Core Strategy Public Examination
October 2006 Sustainable Appraisal Report
