Implementing eGovernment
Ashford Borough Council has won
awards for implementing Electronic Government - the process of
allowing residents to access our services online.
In 2004 we were highly commended in
the eGovernment National Awards and were winners of the Public
Sector Technology project of the year at the 2005 CNET Technology
Awards.
The
implementation of eGovernment for local authorities is seen as a
national priority. In 2006 we successfully completed the
Government's "Implementing Electronic Government" project. A
large part of that process involved developing and
delivering interaction with the community through our website
and other communications technology, such as providing
information, booking venues, resources and courses
online, collecting revenue and paying for goods and
services.
Though the eGovernment programme
has now officially come to an end, it is considered part
of a continuing process of improvement that will deliver
significant efficiencies in the long term through
better working practices.
We continue to face
pressure to demonstrate that we deliver real value for money,
and eGovernment is an important tool in that.
