Queries and Appeals

The Council Tax regulations allow Taxpayers to appeal against their charge in two areas

  • The band that your home has been valued at
  • The decisions made by the Council regarding liability for the charge or your entitlement to a discount, exemption or disablement relief

If you wish to appeal against your Council Tax Benefit entitlement please see the information on Benefits appeals.

The band of your property is allocated by the Valuation Office Agency, which is a government agency.  The band is based on the market value of the property as at 1 April 1991.

If you wish to appeal against the band given to your property you need to contact the Valuation Office Agency at:

If you have any query on your account, we will check your account and if there is an error we will correct it and issue you with a new bill.

If you wish to appeal against any decision made by the Council regarding liability for the charge or your entitlement to a discount, exemption or disablement relief please contact the Revenues Service immediately

It may be that we have not all the information that we need to send you a correct bill.  By giving us more details it may resolve the problem.

If you still don't agree that your Council Tax charge is correct there are some cases where you are entitled to appeal.

Please contact us if you need any further information.
