Reducing Your Bill
There are various ways that your bill can be reduced provided
that you satisfy the appropriate criteria.
Do you
live alone?
Did you know that if you are the only adult living at the
property you can reduce your Council Tax by 25 per cent.
Are you
on a low income?
You may be able to claim Council Tax Benefit and reduce the
amount you have to pay.
Do you have
someone living with you who is on a low income?
You may be able to claim Second Adult Rebate if you have some
living with you who is not able to help you to pay your full
Council Tax.
Has your
property been adapted for a disabled person?
If you have made an adaption to your property for a disabled
member of your household you may qualify for a reduction.
Do
you own an empty property?
If you own a property that is empty you may be entitled to a
discount.
Do you own a property that is uninhabitable? You
may be entitled to a reduction.
Are you exempt from paying Council Tax?
IIn certain circumstances an exemption from Council Tax can
apply.
Are you entitled to other discounts?
Certain groups of people are not included when we work out your
bill. These are known as disregards and you may be entitled to a
reduction.
Is your property in the correct band?
IIf you think the band your property has been placed is
incorrect you may make an appeal.

Your Circumstances Change
If your circumstances change in a way which affects your
entitlement to receive a discount or exemption, or the amount of
Council Tax Benefit you receive, please contact the Revenues
Service immediately.
