Community Safety

The Community Safety Unit was established between the Council and Kent Police, all issues are discussed and addressed through this forum.

If, as a Council tenant, there is an issue which you wish to discuss you can either raise it with your Area Manager or directly with the Community Safety Unit . Housing Services put community safety at the top of its agenda and will do whatever possible to ensure people feel safe and secure in their own homes.

We are always willing to consider improvements to areas in an attempt to design out crime and anti-social behaviour. This takes many forms from relatively small alterations to much larger scale regeneration projects. We always carry these improvements out in close consultation with the residents of an area through our Local Plan process.

If there is a specific project that you would like to discuss please contact the Housing Services Team by phone on 01233 330688 or email the Housing Team.

Anti-Social Behaviour

Any behaviour can be anti-social depending on a number of factors including; the context in which it take place, the location, the tolerance levels of the local community, and expectations about the quality of life in an area.

Anti-Social Behaviour can include:

  • Intimidation or harassment
  • Noise nuisance including parties
  • Damaging or misusing public or communal areas including graffiti and vandalism
  • Aggressive, offensive or threatening language or behaviour
  • Violence against people or property
  • Crimes based on discrimination (for example race, gender, religion or sexual orientation)
  • Using housing accommodation for illegal purposes
  • Nuisance caused by pets and other animals
  • Car repairs and abandoned vehicles

Not all complaints received will constitute anti-social behaviour and in these cases other remedies such as talking to neighbours or mediation will be advised. Examples of behaviour that would not normally be considered anti-social would include:

  • Children Playing
  • Occasional one off parties/noise/disturbance (although they may still be a statutory nuisance)
  • Day-to-day normal domestic activity such as DIY

You can report anti-social behaviour by contacting the Housing Services Team by phone on 01233 330688 or email the Housing Team.
