Disabled Adaptions
We want to provide housing for our disabled tenants that
meets their needs and ensures that they can safely occupy their
home. This is normally achieved by undertaking specific
adaptations wherever possible. To ensure that any major adaptation
fully meets the needs of the disabled occupant, an Occupational
Therapist (
OT) from
Kent County Council Social Services (
KCC SS) must
normally support the request.
However we do consider requests for minor
adaptations direct from:
- Occupational Therapists based at hospital
- The Kent Association for the Blind (KAB)
- The Deaf Services Bureau (DSB)
- Ashford Borough Council Scheme Managers
We normally only undertake work if the tenant
(or someone living permanently with the tenant) is registered
disabled or could be registered as disabled. We usually do
work that will give access to the property and facilities
within the property. This is so the disabled occupant can
move about safely and undertake all the usual tasks of daily
life.
We carefully consider each request made.
We endeavour to decide whether to accept or refuse a
request within seven working days of receipt. Sometimes
we may need to get more information before we can make a
decision and we will tell you about this if it is
necessary. Should we reject a request we will advise you
accordingly and you will have the opportunity to appeal that
decision. Very occasionally appropriate adaptations are
impossible, in which case we will help you to find suitable
alternative accommodation locally.
Should you require any further advice, please
contact the Housing Services Team on 01233 330688 or email
the Housing Team.
Occupational Therapy
The Occupational
Therapy (OT)
Bureau ran by Kent County Council assesses your needs for
special equipment or adaptations to your home, if you have
difficulty with daily living tasks due to a physical disability or
frailty.
There is an
online self-assessment form, or you can make a referral for
yourself or someone else via the
Occupational Therapy contact pages.
