Private Sector and Landlord Liaison Scheme
We recieve a large number of homeless applications as
a result of unresolved problems with a tenancy
forcing Landlords to give notice to a tenant. Due to this
we have appointed a small team of Landlord Liaison Officers
whose role is to mediate between Landlords and their tenants,
where there have been problems with a tenancy. These problems
may include:
- damage to your property
- anti social behaviour
- rent arrears
We just ask that, in the first instance, you, the Landlord,
contact us by telephone on 01233 330435 or landlordliaison@ashford.gov.uk
before issuing a notice on the tenancy and ideally at the first
sign that there are difficulties with the tenancy.
The Landlords Liaison Officers will investigate whether the
dispute can be resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.
We ask that the you give us a period of 5 working days to undertake
this mediation. If at the end of this period we are unable to
resolve the matter, the Officer will work with the tenant to find a
solution to access further accommodation.
We have a range of initiatives in place that we believe will
benefit the landlord:
- A dedicated team giving impartial advice
- Early intervention with a view to resolving disputes
- Prevention Fund to assist with dispute resolution*
- We aim to help you to avoid the costs associated with issuing
notices and re-letting your property
- Assistance with finding tenants for your properties including
the Rent Deposit Bond Scheme
- Advice on Housing Benefit
- Fast tract access to the Housing Benefit section
- We work closely with the Private Sector Housing team
- Opportunity to join the Private Accredited Lettings Scheme
*A one off payment given at the discretion of the Council to
sustain the tenancy. In return the Landlord will agree to
extend the tenancy for a further period of twelve months.
Throughout this period the Landlord Liaison Officers will assist
and support the tenant.
If you have a tenant that you would like to refer to us for
assistance please complete the online
Landlord and Agent Referral Form. This form is also
available in paper format from either the Civic Centre or the
