Trees

Trees in Kings WoodTrees are one of the most important and impressive features of the English landscape, and here in Ashford we are the most wooded area in Kent.

Amongst the many benefits of trees are their ability to alleviate noise from traffic, screen tall buildings and large industrial areas, provide shade and of course habitats for a vast number of bird, insect and animal species.

Tree Management in Ashford

Many of the trees in the borough are our responsibility and are Council-owned.

The protection of trees plays an important role in conserving the natural environment and makes a significant contribution to the beauty of the borough. Where trees are not protected by Conservation Area status, we have the power to place Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) to prevent inappropriate works taking place.

The principle effect of a TPO is to prohibit felling, uprooting, topping, lopping, wilful damage or wilful destruction of trees without our consent.

These webpages will help you understand the basic legislation and procedures relating to trees covered by a TPO or those which are located within a Conservation Area. You can search Applications for Tree Works online, use our TPO search facility or view TPOs and Conservation areas with our online mapping facility. If you are in doubt whether a tree is covered by an order or is located within a Conservation Area please contact our Customer Services Team on 01233 331111.
