Vandalism and Littering
As part of our commitment
to ensuring a healthy, safe and pleasant environment we
play a vital role in preventing and dealing with vandalism and
littering across the borough.
Littering, fly-tipping, fly-posting, graffiti and abandoned cars
are not only highly antisocial but also illegal.
As a key player in Ashford 's Community Safety Unit, we are instrumental
in initiatives to prevent antisocial behaviour, which often results
in vandalism and graffiti.
Our Environmental Services team are responsible for
removing abandoned vehicles from the roads and also take
a tough stance in detecting and prosecuting illegal fly-tipping.
Littering is a massive
issue and it is our job to issue fixed penalty notices to
litterbugs and deter people using our streets and public
spaces as a dustbin.
The Grimebusters partnership scheme between the
council and Kent Probation Area, using offenders to remove graffiti
from public areas, is an ongoing success.
Environmental Services does not have powers to deal
with illegal flyposting, this should either be dealt with by
the Planning Department, under Section 224 of The Town and Country
Planning Act, or Kent Highways (08458 247800) using Section 132 of
The Highways Act (1980).
You can help us understand the problems you experience in your
community, such as vandalism, graffiti, litter, noise and nuisance
by completing our Community Safety questionnaire.
