Netball TeamThere are many sports and physical activities available in the borough and we are keen to encourage people to live a fit and healthy lifestyle.  We work in partnership with various organisations in delivering sporting opportunities for all, offering support, advice and guidance for individuals and local sports clubs.

 

Whether its bowls, golf or general fitness we have lots on offer. You can also find out about clubs, disability sport, facilities and sports initiatives, and we also have information about our play areas for you to check out.

If your answer is yes, then we need your help.  We are putting together a database of all those who coach, teach, lead, and assist with sports or physical activity sessions in the borough.  We want to identify where the gaps are in coaching provision in Ashford as well as opportunities for the professional development of those who lead sessions. 

Active Ashford website launches

The Sports Partnership for the Borough of Ashford launched the website on August 24 to coincide with the London 2012 Handover event.  The site contains information on the partnership, how to get Active and much more, go to www.activeashford.co.uk for further details.

Unsung Hero Awards

BBC Sports Unsung Hero 2008 award is an opportunity to recognise the dedicated, and often voluntary, work of people who give so much of their time, effort and talent to encourage others to excel in grassroots sport. This award salutes the work of those people, to nominate click on the BBC Website

 

The Kent Volunteer awards nominations have now closed, the ceremony will be held on 23 November.

Kennington gets clubmark

Kennington junior cricket club were recently awarded Clubmark, they are the second club in Ashford after Tenterden Cricket Club to achieve this status.

Survey

A questionnaire designed to look at all aspects of local sports provision was sent out to all the clubs in Ashford.  One hundred and seventy questionnaires were sent out in January with a 20% response so far.  We are already working closely with these clubs in terms of Clubmark and funding and development plans.

 

The sports officers are putting together a comprehensive Sports Directory of all Ashford's sports clubs, but we need your help!  For more information on how to get involved, please contact Simon Harris on 01233 330232.
