Gypsy sites consultation
Ashford
Borough Council is seeking views from the public on accommodation
sites for the gypsy, traveller and travelling showpeople
community.
The Gypsy, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople Accommodation
Issues and Options report highlights the various issues and range
of potential options for the allocation of pitches within the
borough.
The consultation starts on Thursday 11th March for six weeks,
ending on Thursday 22nd April 2010.
The Issues and Options report does not suggest any particular
sites but asks for sites to be put forward for consideration and
explains the types of locations that are likely to be
acceptable.
It also seeks views on the Council’s approach to selecting the
most appropriate sites and how they should be managed.
The Issues and Options report deals with the following:
- The broad issues around finding land to allocate as sites for
gypsies, travellers and travelling showpeople including seeking
site submissions from landowners;
- The issues relating to the location of those sites within the
borough and the criteria that should be taken into account in
allocating sites;
- The options relating to the best possible size of site or
sites;
- The likely management or ownership of those sites;
- Possible ways in which new sites or pitches can be implemented
and brought into use;
- Possible options for the Council’s gypsy and traveller site at
Chilmington.
The report is the first stage in the preparation of the Gypsy,
Travellers and Travelling Showpeople Development Plan Document
(DPD).
The DPD, which will follow at a later date, will show the sites
considered to be the most appropriate and there will be an
opportunity for comments at that time.
Community groups and organisations as well as interested members
of the public and potential future occupants are asked to submit
their views on the report before the 22nd April.
