Cheeseman's Green & Waterbrook AAP

The Cheeseman’s Green & Waterbrook Area Action Plan ( AAP ) forms part of Ashford’s Local Development Framework. Cheeseman’s Green  is identified in ABC 's Core Strategy (policy CS5) as an urban extension site which should be planned to accommodate around 4,300 dwellings and at least 1475 additional jobs in the combined area by 2021. After 2021, there is potential for a further 2,200 dwellings and at least 750 jobs. As such, the AAP will set out the development framework for the mixed-use urban extension area at Cheeseman's Green / Waterbrook and establish policies for residential, employment and infrastructure development within the area.

The site has some existing planning consents which will be taken into account as part of the AAP masterplanning process, as well as some constraints which are capable of being overcome in order to allow development to proceed. A key part of the AAP process will be the production of a masterplan for the development of these areas, to which development proposals will be expected to accord.

Progress

The Council issued an Issues and Options Report  for public consultation in June 2009 for a period of 8 weeks. Representations in relation to the Issues and Options report can be viewed through the Council’s consultation portal. The Issues and Options Report will form the basis of developing a credible evidence base which will see the Council produce a Publication version of the Cheeseman’s Green & Waterbrook AAP by September 2012. Responses to the Publication version will be considered when preparing the final Submission version of the AAP   in January 2013.

Background Documents

In conjunction with the preparation of the AAP, a Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report has been produced which assesses the economic, social and environmental constraints of the proposed urban extension. Copies of the report have been sent to the statutory consultation bodies which includes the Environment Agency, English Heritage and Natural England.
