SHLAA
Ashford Borough Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment
(SHLAA)
The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is
seen by Government as an important part of the evidence base for
Development Plan Documents (DPDs) and was first introduced in PPS3
– Housing (November 2006) with the guidance on methodology
confirmed in July 2007. The guidance provides the government’s view
on how it considers SHLAA should be undertaken and therefore
provides the basis for conducting such studies.
According to the Government guidance, the
primary role of the SHLAA is to:
• identify sites with potential for
housing;
• assess their housing potential; and
• assess when they are likely to be
developed
This study builds on work already completed by
the Council, in particular previous Urban Capacity Studies (UCS)
and the Annual Monitoring Reports which addressed previous
government guidance.
