Making sure our plans are sustainable – The Sustainability
Appraisal
To ensure that all the plans and guidance we prepare for the
future of the Borough are sustainable we are required to see if
they have any significant social, economic or environmental impact.
This page contains the Sustainability Appraisal reports prepared
for the Local Development Framework. Each document has to go
through a number of stages.
Stages of the sustainabilty process
Stage 1: Gathering Evidence - Scoping

Making sure we have the right information and we know what the
issues are.

Starting to write the plan and looking at the options and effects
of the plan.

We are preparing a
number of Supplementary Planning Documents which will provide
further guidance to deliver our planning policies. These

This will show how to ensure new developments are of a high

This will show how new developments can be greener
Residential Space & Layout
This will show how new homes have a high quality living
environment
Affordable Housing
This will show how a range of different house types can be
provided, including affordable housing.
Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report
A combined scoping report has been carried out for the four
documents above.

Amended Sustainability Appraisal Tasks
In February 2007 the Council consulted with the statutory
environmental consultation bodies on the Scoping Report for a
number of SDP and DPD identified above. Following comments
received the Sustainability Appraisal Framework as well as Task A1
and A2 have been reviewed and updated, these are available
below:
