Arts

Ashford has a vibrant local arts programme of festivals,
events and visual arts experiences. Over the last five years
the Council has focussed on creating different networks of arts
practitioners and commissioning projects to develop local
organisations and artists, all of which can be found in these
pages.
Festivals: Key
festivals for the town are Ashford Summer Sounds (July) which includes
voluntary sector run events such as Create. Year on
year thousands of people also visit the Stour Music Festival
(June) and Tenterden Folk Festival
(Oct) which are both run by successful trusts.
Events: A wide variety of showings,
performances and participatory events take place in Ashford's
streets, parks and wonderful intimate venues such as St
Mary's Church and Sinden Theatre, as well as
in pubs, clubs and village halls. Click on
Organisations to see how you could get involved in singing
groups, giant associations and artist workshops to name just a
few!
Visual Arts: Kings Wood in Challock provides
the stunning backdrop for Stour Valley Arts public
art trail engaging with regional, national and international
artists. Ashford Visual Artists
are just one of the many arts groups and societies that flourish in
the borough with which we consult and commission work. There
are also a small number of commercial art galleries in the
town centre as well as in Tenterden, Smarden and Mersham.
