Walking and Rambling
The best way to explore the
countryside is by following one of the waymarked footpaths such as
the Stour Valley Walk, the North Downs Way, the Greensand Way or
the Saxon Shore Way, which follows the ancient coastal path between
Kenardington and Aldington via Hamstreet Woods nature reserve.
Follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims along part of the Pilgrim's
Way or explore some of the excellent nature trails and then find
yourself a spot to relax with a picnic.
Climb the Downs at Hastingleigh and enjoy the
spectacular panoramic views over the valley. Footpaths allow you to
explore the area, which is now a National Nature Reserve and which
includes the locally-famous area known as the "Devil's Kneading
Trough". Pause to look at the Wye Crown, carved into the side of
the Downs by Wye College students in 1902 to commemorate the
coronation of King Edward VII.
