Bethersden

BethersdenThe Parish Church of St. Margaret's with its 15th century tower dominates the western side of the village. The church contains some interesting memorials including Bethersden's most famous family, the Lovelaces. There is a tablet to Jonathan Whiston, vicar 1669-97, who rebuilt the Old Vicarage (now Whiston House) at his own expense after its predecessor was destroyed by fire. Bethersden was once in great demand for its marble - Canterbury and Rochester cathedrals contain many fine examples. The main industries of the village now include farming, ironcraft and rocking horse manufacture.
