Egerton
Egerton is a large parish extending from the greens
and hills overlooking the Weald down to Egerton Forstal in the
Weald itself. The largely 15th century ragstone church with its six
bell beacon tower can be seen for miles. There are a number of 15th
century farmhouses and Yeoman's houses but new developments over
the years have blended in well to make Egerton a lively village.
The village, with its variety of soils, has a wide range of farming
activities from livestock rearing and orchards to soft fruit and
cereal growing. The 127 Canadian Wing, 403 Squadron of the Canadian
Air Force maintains strong links with the village as it was based
in Egerton during the Second World War.
