Stone-cum-Ebony

The parish of Stone-cum-Ebony is scattered over a wide area but is situated mostly in the Isle of Oxney between Wittersham and Appledore. To the east, the parish includes section of the Royal Military Canal, constructed in the 19th century as a defence against the threatened invasion by Napoleon. The parish lies in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is itself conservation area. The 15th century church is well worth a visit, especially to see the Mithras Roman Altar in the Belfry.
