Woodchurch

WoodchurchThe focal point of the village is the well-kept traditional village green. There are many listed buildings of interest throughout the village, which is partly on the site of the Manor of Thundale, built in 1135 by Ralph de la Thun for half a knight's fee. To the north of the village is a white windmill, given to the village by Sir Sydney Nicholson, who was organist and choir master at Westminster Abbey between 1917 and 1927. The smock mill has now been restored to working order and is open to the public on Sunday afternoons from April to September. The South of England Rare Breeds Centre at Highlands Farm on the Woodchurch to Hamstreet Road is open daily and has more than 65 species of rare farm animals in 90 acres of beautiful countryside.
