There is a wealth of evidence to suggest that being active (even for ten minutes) can make a huge difference to an individual’s health and wellbeing (physical, mental and social). It is never too late to become engaged in physical activity, yet for many older people this is something of a challenge.
To encourage those aged over 60 to consider at least ten minutes of exercise a day, the council has introduced a new health and fitness activity campaign called Active Everyday.
We have created a calendar spanning three months' worth of suggested daily activities which range from light exercise, such as NHS health walks, group tasks with Kent Wildlife Trust and short mat bowls, to more intense exercises such as walking football, senior circuits or a multi activity session. The various activities included are fun and local, and residents can find like-minded people to engage with too.
Those wishing to receive email notifications about upcoming events can register their details at ActiveEveryday@ashford.gov.uk or call 01233 330459.

An events calendar spanning three months is now available.
The free calendars are available from local hubs including the brand new One You shop, leisure centres, council reception, Ashford Gateway and more.
Please be advised that the majority of these activities run every week and are not exclusive to the specified dates, so do not worry if you miss an activity.
If you run, or know of any activities that think should be included in this programme, or for more information please contact ActiveEveryday@ashford.gov.uk or call 01233 330459.
If you require a bus to attend any activity, please visit StageCoach for all timings and information.
