Animal Boarding

To apply to run a boarding kennel or a cattery you need to complete our animal boarding application form [pdf] 69KB and pay the appropriate fee. The number of dogs and/or cats that can be boarded will be specified on the licence.

The aim of the licence is to achieve certain standards in the management of the accommodation and to ensure precautions against disease and fire. This is done by attaching relevant conditions to the licence [pdf] 70KB to ensure that animals are kept in suitable accommodation.

If you are a new applicant or are considering erecting new kennels and/or cattery accommodation or carrying out alterations to existing accommodation you are advised to contact planning to ascertain whether it is necessary to obtain planning permission.

Home boarding

It is becoming increasingly popular for individuals to carry out small-scale commercial boarding of dogs within their own home, which also includes daycare facilities. This requires an animal home boarding application form [pdf] 80KB and paying the appropriate fee.

The licence holder has to comply with specific animal home boarding conditions [pdf] 74KB.
