The borough's cemeteries are very important open spaces.

It is recognised that cemeteries are an important link to the borough's past, and part of our green corridor.  Cemeteries are a place for people to wander and for quiet comtemplation, we ask that if you take your dog into our cemeteries, that you keep them under control.

Over the past few years we have invested a great deal of money in the cemeteries to ensure they are a pleasant area for people to visit. The work we have undertaken includes:

• Repairing the traditional stone walls in the Canterbury Road Cemetery
• Renewing all of the roadways in the Canterbury Road Cemetery
• Ensuring all the head and kerb stones in Bybrook cemetery, Willesborough cemetery and Canterbury Road cemetery are erect and in a safe condition (many other Council's are just laying them down)
• Constructing a new road in Willesborough Cemetery for future growth

We have four working cemeteries at present:

• Bybrook Cemetery
• Canterbury Road Cemetery (this cemetery opened in 1859)
• Cranbrock Road Cemetery, Tenterden
• Willesborough Cemetery (this cemetery opened in 1884)

In addition we also maintain eight closed cemeteries

• Grave Yard, Station Road, Tenterden
• St Mary's Church, Ashford Town Centre
• St Mary's Church, Kennington
• St Mary's Chuch, Stone
• St Mary's Church, Willesborough
• St Mildred's Church, Tenterden
• St Peter and Paul Church, Appledore
• St Peter's Church, Newenden

We can arrange for the burial of deceased individuals who have no will and no family to arrange a funeral.

Ashford Borough Council does not have any crematoria.  The nearest crematorium is in Charing, the telephone number is 01233 712443.  If you or your loved ones wish to be cremated, your undertaker would normally deal with this for you.
