Rising sea levels, coastal
erosion, over-fishing and the decline in traditional holiday
making are now challenging the natural heritage of Kent.
There is a growing need to manage the coast responsibly and
effectively for the benefit of all who use it in any way.

Beaches and Coastline
Kent has one of the longest and most varied coastlines in
England. Almost one third of the people of Kent live in coastal
districts.
The coast has some of the finest heritage sites in the country,
together with exceptional sites of international importance for
wildlife. There is also a wide choice of beaches along the coast to
choose from. The nearest beaches to Ashford with approximate milage
are:
- Dymchurch ( 13 miles)
- Folkestone (15.5 miles)
- Hythe (13 miles )
- Whitstable (21 miles)
There are many more beaches around the Kent coastline such as
Broadstairs, Deal, Herne Bay, Kingsdown, Leysdown, Margate, New
Romney, Ramsgate, Sheerness and Viking Bay.
