Pest Control
We provide a number of pest control services through our
contractor, Bounty Pest Control, some of which are free and others
there is a charge for.
Free Services
- Bed Bugs are found throughout Britain and they
are generally associated with poorer properties, hostels and
hotels. Bed Bugs are associated with human habitation, hiding
in furniture and structural cracks and crevices, (Bed Bugs can be
transferred in second hand furniture bedding and luggage)
emerging at night when hungry to search for blood meals.
Bites may cause severe allergic reactions but are not known as a
disease carrier.
Thorough residual treatment of all harbourages in bedding,
furniture and the building of infested buildings is required to
eradicate the pest.
- Rats and Mice
We have a statutory duty to ensure that owners of land within
the borough keep their land free from rats and mice. However, we do
not have a statutory duty to carry out treatments. For more
infomation view our Rats and Mice webpage.
- Cockroaches are normally found in blocks of
flats or commercial premises associated with food production. They
hide in crevices and cracks during the day, and come out at night.
Cockroaches will eat virtually anything and are carriers of
diseases, including typhoid, dysentery and gastroenteritis.
Cockroaches can cause allergic reactions among sensitive people,
including asthmatics.
Charged Services
We also provide services for other common
pests such as dog and cat fleas, ants, mites, moths, beetles,
cluster flies, weevils
and wasps but these are not classed as a health hazard and a charge
is made for treatment.
