Kent Waste Strategy
Key Objectives (KOs):
- Reduce the amount of waste in the first place
- Re-use materials e.g. re-fill bottles, re-use furniture
- Recover recycling, composting and energy recovery
- If all else has failed – dispose of waste or residues
responsibly
Key Measures of Success (KMS):
- Educate the public to shop more responsibly – less disposables
(‘Real Nappy campaign and others)
- Educate the public to re-use items where possible
- Achieve higher recycling targets
- Use waste processing plant to convert waste to energy
- Separate biodegradable waste from non-biodegradable to reduce
amount sent to landfill, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to
meet EU laws (Home Composting campaign and others)
- Ensure that as little waste as possible is collected and
transported to landfill to reduce transport pollution and protect
the environment
