Ashford Sustainable Community Strategy
Ashford Sustainable Community Strategy 2008 - 2018
Ashford Borough Council has adopted an aspirational ten-year
vision for how the borough should develop.
The new Sustainable Community Strategy takes account of views
expressed by members of the public in response to an Ipsos/MORI
survey and was drawn up by the Ashford Partnership, a body that
brings together a wide range of organisations delivering services
in the Borough – Ashford Borough Council, Kent County Council, the
NHS, Kent Police, voluntary and community groups and local business
representatives.
Their proposals were debated at the Council’s annual State of
the Borough debate in October and have now been published.
The Community Strategy sets out clearly what issues are
important to the local community and what key objectives the
Ashford Partnership intends to achieve over the next ten years.
The document is important because it will influence the next
round of planning documents that the council will be consulting on
in the months ahead. It will also influence the corporate plans of
all the various partner organisations, as they have all signed up
to the objectives set out in the strategy.
The plan sets out a number of clear strategic
priorities set into eight themes:
- Learning for everyone
- Economic success – opportunities for all
- Improving health and wellbeing
- Promoting environmental excellence
- Stronger and safer communities
- Enjoying life
- Keeping Ashford moving
- Achieving high quality homes
The ten year plan is not just a document, it
is a process. It includes a vision for the local area, based on the
aspirations, needs and priorities of the local community, a
strategy for implementing that vision, and regular monitoring to
ensure the aims are being met.
The Strategy reflects the outcomes of the
Ipsos/MORI survey of residents view in late 2006 and is based on
extensive consultation with a wide range of stakeholders.
