Starting Work
I have started work, what do I need to do?
You need to notify these offices straight away
either by completing the
online change of circumstances form, by
e-mailing benefit.services@ashford.gov.uk or
by letter. After starting work you may still be entitled to
benefit if you, or your partner are on a low income. If you wish to
estimate benefit entitlement based on your new circumstances you
can do a 'trial calculation' using our
online calculator.
We will need to see your first 5 weekly, 3
fortnightly or 2 monthly wage slips depending on how you will
be paid, as and when you receive them, plus proof of all other
income you or partner may have and proof of all capital held
if you wish to continue claiming.
If you were receiving Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance,
Employment and Support Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Severe
Disablement Allowance before you started work, you may be entitled
to up to 4 weeks Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit at
the same rate you were receiving before. This is known as an
Extended Payment Period
After starting work you may still be entitled to benefit if you,
or your partner are on a low income. If you do not qualify for full
benefit, it may mean that you have to pay something towards your
rent. If you feel that a shortfall to pay would cause you hardship,
you could apply for a Discretionary Housing
Payment
