Assisted Moves
An "Assisted Move" takes the worry of moving, both physically
and mentally, away from you, it also covers some of the cost of
moving and you may qualify for a cash payment of up to £1570.
Am I Eligible for an Assisted Move?
If you are over the age of 50 living in an
Ashford Borough Council owned property with 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms, and
want to move to a flat, bungalow or sheltered housing scheme either
allocated or nominated by Ashford Borough Council you will
qualify.
If you are moving from an Ashford Borough
Council mobility property, (e.g. where the property was built with
specific features suitable for a disabled occupant who is no longer
residing at the property), you will also qualify for an assisted
move.
This will include:
- Re-direction of post.
- Reconnection of all appliances such as washing machines,
cookers and telephones.
- Removal of all your furniture and possessions, packing and
unpacking, if necessary.
- Up-lifting carpets and re-laying in your new home. Sometimes
providing basic cord carpet if this cannot be achieved. Other items
that may be particular to your circumstance will be dealt
with.
You are responsible for:
- Notifying your gas and/or electricity supplier and water
companies of the move and whether you require a key meter at your
new property.
- That the property you are vacating is clean and free of
furniture.
- That the keys are returned to the Civic Centre by 12 noon on
the date your new tenancy commences.
- The safety of your pets whilst the move is taking place.
- Completing a Housing Benefit form for your new property.
We will:
- Arrange for you to view the property at a convenient time
within 3 days of receiving the offer.
- Arrange transport to view the property;
- Visit you to discuss all the arrangements for the move if you
accept the property
How do I apply?
If you would like to take advantage of an
assisted move then you will need to join the Councils transfer
scheme.
If you are already on the transfer list and an
offer of accommodation is made to you, then you will automatically
qualify. When you visit the property to view, the arrangements for
an assisted move will be discussed.
To join the transfer list or discuss the
Assisted Move Scheme, please contact the Housing Services Team by
phone on 01233 330688 or email the Housing Team.
