Benefits Advice

You can get comprehensive information and advice on benefits thanks to a new service from Ashford Borough Council and the Welfare Advice Service.

This service may be able to help you if you have had a recent change of circumstances or if you need further advice and assistance with claiming the right benefits.

It can also help and offer advice you if you are in work but have had a drop in income or are finding it difficult to manage at the moment.

The service can provide you with information on:

  • which benefits you are eligible to claim
  • all welfare benefits
  • backdating benefit claims
  • assitance with completing application forms

If you have recently applied for a benefit but it has been rejected, the service can also help you to appeal against the decision

If you are not currently working but are considering returning to work and would like to know if you would be able to manage financially then talk to the Welfare Advice Service about a 'Better Off in Work' Calculation.  You may also want to look at the entitledto website which uses a simple calculator to help you to work out how much you could claim, this should be used as an approximate guide only.

Drop in to the Ashford Plus Gateway at any time on Monday to Friday from 9.00 til 4.00 or on a Saturday from 9.00 til 1.00 and you will be able to see an Officer who will do his or her best to answer your query and offer you advice.  If you require more in depth advice or information, an appointment will be made for you to see a Housing Options Officer or you can make an appointment by calling 01233 330368.
