Business Rates
Business rates are the way in which busin esses and
other occupiers of non-domestic property contribute towards the
costs of local authority services.
They are payable on most non-domestic properties such as shops,
offices, warehouses, industrial units, advertising sites, land used
for storage and other commercial purposes. Business Rates are also
payable on any part of a property used partly for commercial rather
than domestic purposes, for example, a small office attached to a
house.
Rates are payable on most occupied and some empty
properties. However, there are certain classes of property that do
not attract rates please see our Exemptions and Relief webpage for more
information.

Your Revenues Service
The aim of our Revenues Service is to
provide the Borough's businesses with a reliable and
efficient service. We issue Business Rates bills; process changes;
provide advice and recover unpaid debts. Most people rarely
have the need to get in touch with us, but if your
circumstances change, you may need to let us know.
The administration of Business Rates is now dealt with by
Canterbury City Council in a shared service agreement with Ashford
Borough Council you can contact the Business Rates Team by
telephoning 01227 862326 or fax 01227 862020 or email
Businessrates@canterbury.gov.uk
However for administration purposes it is more helpful if
written correspondences is still sent to Ashford Borough Council at
