There are many sports and
physical activities available in the borough and we are keen to
encourage people to live a fit and healthy lifestyle. We
work in partnership with various organisations in delivering
sporting opportunities for all, offering support, advice
and guidance for individuals and local sports clubs.
Whether its bowls,

School serves an ace
Wyvern School, Ashford has been selected by
Volleyball England to become one of only eight national development
centres for Sitting Volleyball and is now actively seeking new
players.
The school, known for its great work in
developing disability sport, was short listed for this prestigious
award in August. It was the school’s good links with the Mid
Kent & Ashford School Sport Partnership and Tom Middleton, Kent
County Council Volleyball Development Officer, that sealed the
deal.

Another medal for Ashford athletes
Nicholas Boylan an Active
Ashford Sporting Ambassador swam as a member of the GB Team,
in the 100m breaststroke, at the IPC European Swimming Champions in
Iceland.
Nicholas was one of seven swimmers
within the new S14 classification for athletes with a learning
disability. Since the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games learning
disabled athletes have been suspended from all Paralympic Sports
events, following cheating among the Spanish L.D. Basketball
Team. The IPC European Swimming Championships was
therefore the first event since 2000 which included learning
disabled competitors.
In his race, Nicholas recorded a
time of 1:14.70. This won him the Silver medal, for second
place, and was a new personal best taking 3 seconds of his previous
p.b.
It was announced that learning disability sportspeople will be
allowed to compete at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
