Biography
Richard Honey was born in Kent in 1974 and has
lived in the county all his life. He moved to the Borough in
1997, living first in Ruckinge. He has lived in Hastingleigh
since 2005. Richard qualified originally as a chartered
surveyor, but then re-trained as a lawyer. He now works as a
barrister practising in public, planning and environmental
law. Richard has worked with a number of local organisations
where his legal knowledge is useful. Before being elected to
the Borough Council he was a Parish Councillor.
Richard is a member of a number of groups such
as the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, the Kent
Wildlife Trust, the Ramblers’ Association and the Campaign for Real
Ale. He has two young daughters. The family try to
spend their leisure time walking locally, usually with a decent
country pub as the objective.
Richard’s priorities as Ward Councillor are
to:
- ensure that the rural areas are a priority for the Council and
are not disadvantaged by Ashford’s Future plans;
- protect local services, including schools, post offices, shops,
pubs and buses;
- stop inappropriate development, but to encourage development
that is needed, such as housing for local people; and
- improve the waste management and recycling services provided to
residents of the rural areas.
