Pets and Fireworks
If you have a pet who is afraid of fireworks several
vets now offer a desensitisation programme which will gradually
decrease their fear over time and make them more settled during the
prolonged periods of firework activity.
Farm animals and dogs have literally been frightened to death by
fireworks. Numerous startled animals have been killed or
injured and been the cause of accidents. Pets become
distressed which is not only bad for them but can be very worrying
for their owners.
Be Neighbour Aware
If you have neighbours who have young children, are elderly or
have pets let them know in advance that you plan to have
fireworks.
- Choose fireworks that don’t make a loud noise. Too much noise
can frighten animals and people.
- Ensure pets and other animals are safely away from the
fireworks
- Make sure you finish your display before 11pm and try and keep
it to Friday and Saturday if possible.
- Don’t let fireworks off in built up residential areas as the
noise vibrates off walls. Make sure you use them in an open
garden.
