Green Waste
Home Composting
You can produce your own compost by using organic kitchen
waste and waste from the garden. To find out how to make compost at
home, visit the Recycle Now Home Composting
website.
Disposing of Green Waste
- Compost green waste and vegetable peelings either using a
compost bin or compost heap
- If you use a gardener, ask them to remove garden waste
(check they have a waste carriers licence from the Environment
Agency) or ask them to shred clippings and leave them for you
to mulch down for reuse
- Take green waste to the Kent County
Council Recycling Centre where the green waste is rotted
down into compost that can be bought back and used on the
garden
- This Council no longer offers a separate green waste collection
service, for smaller amounts two sack loads of soft green garden
waste i.e. grass cuttings and weeds may be disposed of with your
normal domestic refuse, but please ensure these bags are
tied.
Both the
Kent County Council and the British Trust for Conservation
Volunteers (BTCV) can
give advice on home composting.
