Food waste

The black and orange food caddy that you have been provided with is for disposal of your household food waste. This should be put out weekly with your refuse or recycling bin on collection days by 6am on the boundary of your property and placed back in your boundary as soon as possible after collection to stop any obstruction to the highway. 

The black and orange caddy can be lined with newspaper or compostable liners.

Leftovers from meals
Fruit and veg, including peelings
Dairy products
Bread, pasta, pulses and rice
Teabags and coffee grounds
Solid butter and lards
Eggshells
Foods past their sell by date

Plastic bags
Liquids or oils
Any packaging
Pet waste or litter
Garden recycling or clippings
Any dry recycling or household refuse

No food waste is sent to landfill if you place it in your food caddy for collection. 

All food waste in Kent is sent for Anaerobic digestion, which is the process of breaking down food without the use of oxygen. A rich biogas is produced and is used in power generation, gas grid injection or transport fuel. The resulting organic material is used as a nitrogen rich biofertilizer.
