Cooling Tower Notification
Cooling towers and evaporative condensers have been associated
with outbreaks of Legionella.
The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condenser
Regulations 1992 imposes a duty on a person who has
control of a premises with any of the following to notify
Environmental Health by completing and sending in this

form.
The devices include:
Cooling Tower - (a device whose main
purpose is to cool water by direct contact between that water and a
stream of air. The device may use either a mechanical or
natural draft);
Evaporative Condenser - (a device whose
main purpose is to cool a fluid by passing that fluid through a
heat exchanger which itself is cooled by contact with water
passing through a stream of air);

dry cooling process) but only notifiable if it has a wet
pre-cooling process.
