Skin Piercing Byelaws

New Skin Piercing Byelaws

Acupuncture, Tattooing, Semi-Permanent Skin-Colouring, Cosmetic Piercing and Electrolysis

Comprehensive new rules are being introduced by Ashford Borough Council to regulate businesses carrying out acupuncture, tattooing, semi-permanent skin-colouring, cosmetic piercing and electrolysis.

The byelaws set updated hygiene standards relevant to cleanliness and hygiene of premises, practitioners and equipment. They aim to increase health protection and reduce the risk of transmission of infections.

All premises and people carrying out acupuncture, tattooing, semi-permanent skin-colouring, cosmetic piercing and electrolysis are already inspected and registered by the Council's Environmental Health Officers. All that is different is that the byelaws set up-to-date hygiene standards that can be effectively enforced.

The Secretary of State has now confirmed the byelaws and they will come into effect on 01 April 2010.

If you would like to contact an officer about the byelaws please email envhealth@ashford.gov.uk or telephone 01233 330581.
