Cosmetic piercing
Anyone who wishes to carry on the practice of Cosmetic
piercing must be registered with their local council (unless they
are a registered medical practitioner or dentist).
The purpose of registration is to ensure that essential health
and hygiene standards are maintained in any premises where these
activities are carried out. It is compulsory to register both the
premises and the operator under the Local Government (Miscellaneous
Provisions) Act 1982.
Applicants will be required to pay a one-off registration fee,
which covers the cost of administration and inspection of the
premises on a periodic basis. These checks will ensure the
necessary standards are being maintained.

*Note that the Council is obliged to register both the premises
and the person(s) carrying on the above activities hence the
somewhat complex set of fees. The current fees also allow for
additional practitioners to be registered without having to charge
an initial registration fee. The fees structure is also weighted to
the higher risk skin piercing activities that take more resources
to register.
