Initiatives
There are various initiatives and schemes available to support
talented performers.
Performance and Excellence
The Ashford has a cheme called FACS (Free Access for County
Sportspeople) support and encourage our top sports people who live
in Borough, through the provision of free training time at the
Stour Centre, Tenterden Leisure Centre,
and the Julie
Rose Stadium.
To be eligible for the scheme you must be
either a national, regional, or county representative, be part of a
national, regional, or county training squad, or ranked in the
National Governing Body annual listings. There is no age
limit to the scheme.
The management of each of the Centres will endeavour to give you
free entry during off-peak hours and all other reasonable times, as
detailed below.
FACS +
Ashford Borough Council and its partners know that not all
talented and gifted young sports men and women have the opportunity
to play at County level or above but are showing an equal amount of
skill and commitment to their sport. If you are one of these local
ambitious and achieving young individuals we offer FANs + to
further support your development in the sport in which you wish to
excell”

Sport England
provides the strategic lead for sport in this country and is a
distributor of lottery funds. Visit the website for further

Sports Leaders
Award courses are run locally in schools, community
halls, prisons or wherever there is a suitable venue and
incorporate both practical learning sessions and a period of
volunteering in the local community. Participants do not need to be
budding sports stars, an interest in sport and a positive attitude
are all that are required.
- The Youth
Sport Trust develop programmes in conjunction with a
wide range of partners, with the aim of delivering high quality PE
and sport to all young people, regardless of ability. Schemes
include, 'TOP Programmes' and Step-into-Sport, being delivered
through the Specialist Sports Colleges and the School Sports
Partnerships (SSP).
