Ashford Visual Arts & Architecture Festival
The Ashford Visual
Arts and Architecture Festival returns for its’ third year this
September and October, with artists utilising a range of different
venues and outdoor spaces around the borough to exhibit their
work.
The theme for the festival this year is 'Moving in, Moving on',
reflecting the current Ashford story as the borough continues to
lay the foundations for long-term sustainable growth.
Outdoors, you will be able to experience new artistic sculpture
trails, use natural materials to create a habitat to attract bugs,
help build 'Fauna' - a new village giant - and visit a new
development of show homes in an ancient forest.
Other exhibitions include a wearable art exhibition, an Ashford
Visual Artist showcase and a 'Lost O' image retrospective.
Ashford based artist, Cathy Streeter, is looking for your
stories about the old market wall and the events and changes that
have taken place around it. All of Cathy's research, collected
during the festival, will culminate in a multi-media installation
along Elwick Road's red brick wall.
Chris Dixon, Ashford Borough Council’s Arts Project
Co-ordinator, said: “After entertaining the borough with music
festivals throughout July it’s now time for the visual arts to
dazzle us, and as many of the events are free, there is no better
time or place to appreciate art.
"The festival is a good platform to highlight the wealth of
talent and expertise that Ashford can boast in the visual arts.
Over the last three years in particular, the borough has moved in
leaps and bounds as a creative place to live and work.”
