Call centre to create new jobs
Plans to build a 42,000 sq ft call centre at Repton Park
were given the go ahead by Ashford Borough Council’s Planning
Committee this week.
The application, by George Wimpey on behalf of AXA PPP Health Care
Ltd, will create over 600 new jobs on Ashford’s largest brownfield
site.
The news provides another employment boost for the former
Templer Barracks site following the announcement retail giants
Waitrose will be opening a new superstore by the end of the year
creating an additional 140 jobs.
The AXA proposals include two new 3 storey buildings with
landscaping and the provision of 205 parking spaces and 70 cycle
spaces.
Both main buildings will be built to BREEAM ‘very’ good’
standards and will utilise solar thermal panels to generate hot
water and reuse rainwater for flushing toilets.
While planning permission has been granted AXA PPP Health Care
Ltd have put construction plans on hold due to the current economic
crisis.
They have indicated that in the future they may pursue this
project as their circumstances change, as this building has been
specifically designed for them and is situated in their preferred
location.
When the whole planned development is completed, Repton Park
which covers 50 hectares will include 1,250 new homes and new
community facilities such as shops, a school, doctor’s surgery and
a community centre.
Cllr John Kemp, portfolio holder for planning and development,
said: “The expansion of Repton Park continues to provide new
opportunities for living and working close to the town
centre.”
