Find out more on Council Tax
Taxpayers in Ashford can find out more about council
tax and how it is spent at a public meeting this month.
Residents will have the chance to express their views on budget
proposals and have an opportunity to discuss how their council tax
is used. There is also the chance to speak about the services they
want to see more or less of in the future.
The meeting is on Wednesday 10 February and is made up of Kent
County Council and Ashford Borough Council members and officers.
Presentations explaining the financial position and budget
proposals for each council will be given.
Local Board Chairman Mike Angell said: “We work hard to keep
council tax as low as we can while at the same time providing the
very best level of service for the people of Kent.
“This meeting will give us a chance to explain how we deliver
exceptional value for money while seeing if we are getting it right
with residents.
“I urge everyone to come along and see what we’re doing and to
show us if we can do it better, especially during these challenging
times.”
Paul Naylor, Deputy Chief Executive for Ashford Borough Council,
said: “While Ashford Borough Council has the lowest council tax of
Kent District Councils we know that residents are generally
concerned about council tax and that they would like to have their
say on how both the borough and county council spend it.
“This is an opportunity for the council to explain its financial
position, how we have set the proposed budget, and for residents to
give us their views.”
The proposed budgets will be debated by the two councils at
their respective full council meetings in Maidstone and in Ashford
on Thursday18 February.
The meeting takes place on Wednesday 10 February at 7.15pm in
the Council Chamber (Doors open at 7.00pm)
Civic Centre, Tannery Lane, Ashford, Kent, TN23 1PL.
