An Open Day at Ashford’s
new Singleton Environment Centre on Saturday, August 2, will
feature many opportunities for volunteers of all ages to take part
in conservation projects in the town and its countryside.
Organised by Kent BTCV (British Trust for Conservation
Volunteers), which manages the centre for Ashford Borough Council,
the day’s programme will include pond-dipping, home composting
demonstrations, guided walks in the nearby community woodland, and
practical conservation tasks.
Woodland nymph ‘Flora, the Singleton Giant’ and acoustic music
duo ‘Carnelian’ (Nina Clark and Simon Bridgestock) are the latest
additions to the programme
Visitors will also be able to make bird boxes and ‘bug (insect)
boxes’ to take home, join a ‘fun with fabrics’ workshop and take
part in face-painting and nail-painting sessions.
The progress of the Ashford Veteran Tree Project, funded by
Heritage Lottery Funded, will also be featured.
Other attractions will include a ‘fun with fabrics’ workshop and
face-painting sessions.
The Open Day programme will run from 10am - 4 pm but the centre
and its Footprints Cafe will be open from 9-5. Admission is
