Tenterden and rural sites plan
Residents are being asked
for their views on plans to develop the rural parts of the borough
including Tenterden and the villages up to 2021. Consultation
begins on the 30 June for a period of six weeks.
The Tenterden and Rural Sites Development Plan Document (DPD)
details the Council’s planning policies for developing the rural
parts of the borough including Tenterden and the villages.
The rural parts of the borough are likely to see an additional
1,500 new homes being built between 2001 and 2021 and the Tenterden
and Rural Sites DPD sets out how best to achieve this target.
In creating this document the council has already undertaken a
range of local consultation. A series of community workshops with
Parish Council representatives took place between October 2007 and
March 2008.
The outcomes of these workshops were reported in an ‘Issues and
Options’ Report for the rural areas, published by the Council in
May 2008, which examined a range of potential sites for new
development and held an eight week public consultation.
A second round of workshops was then held between January and
March 2009 to inform local communities of the progress made by
officers in establishing a preferred list of possible site
allocations and to again seek community views on this.
The Tenterden and Rural sites DPD is now at the draft stage and
now residents and other key stakeholders such as land owners have
the opportunity to formally comment on its contents.
The Council then has the scope to make minor changes to the
‘Publication’ version before submitting it formally to the
Secretary of State in October 2009 with a public examination likely
in summer 2010.
Cllr John Kemp, portfolio holder for planning and development,
said: “As the borough grows it is important local people have the
opportunity to influence development in their area. This plan sets
out a way for new housing to be built in a controlled and planned
manner which we hope the local communities will understand and
welcome.”
