Chilmington Green Draft Community Development Strategy (2017-2019)
The Chilmington Green development site will see 5,750 new homes created for the borough over a period of about twenty years. Planning permission was granted early in 2017 with early works on site already underway.
Chilmington Green will be a place where high quality is apparent both in the build of the new homes and surrounding facilities, but also in the opportunities for local people to play an active role in creating and sustaining their community.
A Community Management Organisation (CMO) will be created which will be gifted community facilities such as play spaces, community centres, open space and much more. It will manage these facilities on behalf of Chilmington residents and play a key role in driving forward community action.
In order to support the creation of this new community, a draft community development strategy 2017-2019 has been created by Ashford Borough Council and its community partners. Led by the council with the coordination of delivery likely to be managed by the CMO, this Strategy sets out a framework for the delivery of community projects and activities. It is ambitious and regards the involvement of the residents as central to success.
What happens next?
Following public consultation on the draft Community Development Strategy, a report has been produced which summarises the outcomes of the consultation and how the Strategy has been amended to account accordingly.

The formal consultation period starts on September 29 and closes at 4pm on Friday, November 10. The open evening meetings are being held at Finberry Primary School, Avocet Way, Finberry, Sevington, Ashford, TN25 7GS.
Anyone unable to attend the consultation evenings can submit comments and views by completing the online response form at www.stouracademytrust.org.uk/Forthcoming-Academies
In addition a Facebook page has been created.
Work has begun on infrastructure works for the Chilmington Green project.
Hodsons has appointed contractor Gallagher and works involve constructing a new roundabout on the A28 for the main access to the new housing development.
They recently completed work to the south side of the roundabout and have now switched the traffic onto this new section. This enables them to commence the construction to the opposite north side.
In order for them to now complete the surfacing to the roundabout and the associated finishing works it will be necessary for them to undertake some night works.
