Building Design Awards
Buildings across the
borough of all shapes and sizes were highlighted for their
excellence at the Ashford Building Design & Construction
Awards, held on Wednesday 27th January in the Council Chamber.
A variety of schemes were praised; from a circular eco-friendly
home set into the North Downs to high tech new office space at
Eureka Park, the careful restoration of a listed barn to a new
birthing unit at the William Harvey and from a small affordable
housing scheme to the creation of the largest shared space area in
the country.
Award winners ranged from a single builder taking care to
deliver a really high quality job on a house extension to a
multi-million pound project creating an exciting new school space
or the commercial centre serving a regenerated Stanhope.
This is the first time the Building Design Awards and the
Building Excellence Awards were combined to create a joint award
presentation evening showcasing exceptional design and construction
within the borough.
Richard Alderton, Head of Planning and Development for Ashford
Borough Council, said: “Tonight’s event is about celebrating
quality and raising the bar for all. We have seen some stunning
examples of good design and great enthusiasm for creating better
places in Ashford.”
Tim Parrett, Head of Building Control at Ashford Borough
Council, added: “It was a pleasure to give deserved recognition to
local companies and building projects of all shapes and sizes. We
have seen some shining examples of excellent workmanship.”
The Mayor of Ashford, Cllr John Holland and Ashford Borough
Council Chief Executive John Bunnett presented the winners their
awards.
