Urban Sites DPD

The Urban Sites and Infrastructure Development Plan Document ( DPD ) will form one of the key documents of the Ashford Local Development Framework ( LDF ) and will contain policies and site allocations in the Ashford Urban Area outside the town centre and the two major urban extensions at Chilmington Green and Cheeseman's Green, which will be covered in separate documents.

The final document will need to:

Issues and Options Report

The Issues and Options Report was the first stage in the preparation of the DPD and provided an opportunity for everyone to comment on the suitability of a list of potential sites for future development, which have been derived from various sources including the current Ashford Local Plan (2000), LDF Core Strategy (2008) and informal submissions already made to the Council. It also provided an opportunity for any other sites to be put forward for consideration in the Ashford Urban Area.

The Issues and Options Report was out for public consultation from Friday 19th December 2008 to Friday 13th February 2009. The document and the representations made can be viewed via our Consultation Portal.

Public Exhibitions - January 2010

The council held two public exhibitions to show the shortlist of proposed sites to be allocated for development, within this DPD. The first was at the Julie Rose Stadium on the 20th January 2010 and the other at Godinton Village Hall on the 27th January 2010.

The exhibitions were open to all members of the public and operated on an informal drop-in basis. Participants had the opportunity to view the proposed sites and to speak to members of the planning policy team. An information leaflet detailing the proposed sites was provided to individuals and is available to download below. Please note that this is still the early stages and the detailed proposal for each site will be included in the Publication version of the document.

Next Steps

The pre-submission Publication Version of the document has now slipped and therefore the formal public consultation is not expected until September 2010. This version of the document is the version of the DPD which the Council intends to submit to the Secretary of State for public examination.

The Council intends to submit the DPD to the Secretary of State in late 2010/early 2011, with the public Examination likely to be held in summer 2011. Providing the DPD is found to be ‘sound’ then the Borough Council may adopt the document and its contents will become adopted Council policy. This is expected to be in late 2011.
