Test and Trace in Ashford

We now have a greater role in reaching out to residents in the borough who have tested positive for Covid 19.

How it will work

NHS Test and Trace will pass details to the council of residents who have tested positive but who they have not been able to contact. Once in receipt of these records, the council will try to identify a telephone number for the resident.  If a telephone number is on file, this will be passed to NHS Test and Trace to make direct contact.

During this process, the NHS Test and Trace will be able to ensure residents are following the self-isolation guidance and provide them with information about the support on offer from the council and other agencies.

In some cases, if NHS Test and Trace are unable to speak with the resident, council officers will make a socially-distanced face-to-face visit to the address provided.

Residents who are contacted by the council's contact tracing team will be asked to complete a questionnaire which will be passed to NHS Test and Trace.

All council officers will carry photo identification which they must show to you. Anyone who wishes to check a contact tracing visit is a council officer is advised to call the council's main switchboard on 01233 331111 (and press option 4).  

Important, NHS Test and Trace or the council will never:

  • ask for bank details or payments
  • ask for details of any other accounts, such as social media
  • ask you to set up a password or PIN number over the phone
  • ask you to call a premium rate number, such as those starting 09 or 087

Under the new guidance, you could face prosecution or a fine if:

  • You do not stay at home and self-isolate following a positive test result for COVID-19
  • You do not stay at home when you are notified by NHS Test and Trace that you need to self-isolate because you have been identified as a contact of someone who has tested positive.

What to do if you've been in contact with a person who has COVID-19

If you're told you've been in contact with a person who has coronavirus:

  • stay at home (self-isolate) for 10 days from the day you were last in contact with the person - it can take up to 14 days for symptoms to appear
  • do not leave your home for any reason - if you need food or medicine, order it online or by phone, or ask friends and family to drop it off at your home
  • do not have visitors in your home, including friends and family - except for essential care
  • try to avoid contact with anyone you live with as much as possible
  • people you live with do not need to self-isolate if you do not have symptoms
  • people in your support bubble do not need to self-isolate if you do not have symptoms

What do I need to do if I am required to self-isolate?

If you are asked to get a test it is important you do so safely and book in advance. Please do not visit a drop in test centre, instead please call NHS 119.

Information on self-isolating due to coronavirus and the Test and Trace Support Payment
