Hosepipe Ban 2022

As of Friday 12 August 2022 South East water will be imposing a hosepipe ban in this area. This ban affects all of our allotment sites, although hosepipes are already banned on our sites there are some that have been given concessions for various different reasons. As on Friday 12 August 2022 only those who are on South East Water's Priority register will be able to use a hosepipe on the allotment sites. If you are on this register please contact allotments@ashford.gov.uk

At this time the mains water is still switched on but this may change depending on advice given by South East water. We would recommend that you try and water your plot efficiently. Try and avoid watering at mid day when the water is most likely to evaporate, it is best to water early in the morning or in the evening. Another way to stop evaporation is to apply mulch around the base of your plants after watering, you can use straw or grass cuttings for this. It is also best to only water around the base of the plants ensuring that most of the water goes straight into the roots of the plant rather than watering the leaves.

Breaching the ban could result in up to a £1,000 fine and is also a breach of tenancy that can result in your tenancy being terminated.
